All systems are “GO” for our upcoming Operation International-ORV “Adventure Team” project in the Upper Gorkha Region (earthquake epicenter) of Nepal.
Operational International has partnered with Dooley Intermed to build the first eye hospital in the Himalayan area of Bhakunde Besi in Nepal, the area’s poorest district with a population of over 600,000. There are tens of thousands of patients in that area who are suffering from eye diseases without a single hospital dedicated to provide eye care. We are proud to part of this ambitious outreach to offer the only eye hospital in the area.
We have been told to expect over 1,000 patients, possibly as many as 1,500, with 100+ surgeries for our field surgery camp in the remote village of Machhakhola. It will take us 3 days to get there from Kathmandu, one full day by 4WD vehicle followed by two days trekking. Our equipment must be transported by porter and mule caravan. We are working in cooperation with a team from Himalaya Eye Hospital, as with our past outreach projects. The plan is to extract the USA team by helicopter to attend the new Eye Hospital inauguration on 12/15 in Bhakundebesi, Nepal. Daniel Byers has signed on the make a short documentary film of the project.
