Team NY will visit Ethiopia for the first time in May with the hope of establishing a base there for other teams to work in. The team has been in discussions for several months with Felege Hiwot Hospital and aims to, over the course of the next several years, have Operation International’s teams help as many patients as possible at this hospital, donate equipment and supplies to help improve care, and work with the local doctors and nurses to exchange knowledge and increase training.

Felege Hiwot Hospital, located in a Bahir Dar, serves a population of more than 5 million. Like many hospitals in Africa, the needs exceed its capacity, materials are in short supply, and the local healthcare providers have little if any time to learn. Operation International hopes to establish a base that can help with each of these challenges.
The Team New York visit will include two general surgeons, one thoracic surgeon, one maxillofacial surgeon, and two obstetrician gynecologists, along with all nursing and anesthesia staff.
Operation International is grateful for Emirates Airlines Foundation and the Doximity Foundation for the generous support with flight tickets.
