Team Spain will head on their fourth mission with Operation International to Ethiopia in November. This year, the team will tackle general surgeries and gynecological surgeries with the addition of two gynecologists to the team. They hope to evaluate more than 300 patients and operate on approximately 200.

Surgical Cooperation Campaign Team Spain 2026 – Ethiopia
This year, OI Team Spain in Ethiopia will be composed of four general surgeons, two gynecologists, and seven nurses.
Following the experience of Team NY in Ethiopia last May, we identified a particular need for specialist gynecological care, especially in the field of pelvic floor disorders. In response to this need, we are very pleased to welcome, for the first time, Dr. Delgado and Dr. De La Peña, both specialists in this field.
As part of our Spanish team, we will also be joined by our dear friends and outstanding professionals from Ghana: general surgeon Dr. Alhassan, anesthetist Mathias Kelly, and nurse Waisu Nantomah. Their experience and commitment have been invaluable to our previous campaigns, and we are delighted to have them with us again.
We also count with 2 new scrub nurses, Eva Cano and Luisa Botella.
During the campaign, we expect to evaluate more than 300 and operate on approximate ly 200 patients, performing a wide range of procedures, including hernia repairs, thyroid surgery, intestinal resections, and many other general and gynecological surgical proce dures.
The team will work closely with the local medical and nursing staff, combining surgical care with training, knowledge exchange, and capacity building. Our goal is not only to address the immediate surgical needs of patients, but also to contribute to strengthen ing local healthcare capacity and improving access to specialized surgical care in the long term.
