Operation International’s Canada Chapter had a successful first mission to Ghana and performed 93 surgeries. The trip also included guidance for the local teams, including laparoscopy, new breast surgery techniques that do not require any additional materials, and reviewing and refining some local protocols for babies right after birth by C-section.

Operation International Canada is led by Caroline Gauthier, OBGYN MD, a highly trained obstetrician-gynecologist specializing in gynecological minimally invasive surgery, and Kim T-V, RN MS, a Registered Nurse with a distinguished career dedicated to global health and humanitarian efforts. Kim has previously worked with Operation International on Team ENT's mission in 2024.
"The first mission went really well, we performed 93 surgeries, and the team worked together seamlessly," Kim said. "The local GOBYN team was very happy to learn more about laparoscopy. Our breast surgeon was also able to teach new breast surgeries techniques that do not require any additional materials, which was very much appreciated by the local team. Our nurses helped review and refine some local protocols for babies right after birth by C-section, particularly regarding urgent care assessment and actions to be taken."
