Team Hearts will head back to Guyana in June. The team aims to perform at least 10 life saving cardiac surgeries including valve replacements, congenital defect repairs, and coronary bypasses. Their mission will include detailed evaluation of pre-screened patients from waitlist of patients in a country with no cardiac surgery program on site, perioperative and postoperative care to ensure safe recovery, and the screening and evaluation of new cardiac patients for future missions.
In 2023, the Caribbean Heart Institute joined forces with Operation International – Team Hearts to increase the potential for the group to access the resources, technical equipment, and critical skillsets needed to perform complex cardiac surgery in Guyana and around the world.
